GUIDE FOR WALK LEADERS YOUR KEY TO SUCCESS
Keep your walk as near to the stated distance as possible.
Ensure you have a back marker and he/she is aware of the route.
You should count the number of walkers at the start and at the end of the walk.
The pace you set should be one everyone can maintain.
Observe the group behind you, look back frequently to ensure you are not getting too far ahead. Always keep your back marker in sight
Stiles are a good place to let everyone catch up.
Understand that the rear walkers may need to catch their breath. Do not set off as soon as they catch up.
Care should be taken to stay on the right of way.
Cause as little damage as possible when going through crops. A reminder to stay in single file may help, and could also establish a clearer route.
Ensure gates are closed behind you.
Stay safe when walking on roads.
When possible stay on the verge.
Meet the traffic (i.e. walk on the right).
Straying across the road is dangerous.
If there is no suitable verge, remind your group to stay in single file.
Follow the Country Code at all times.
AND MOST OF ALL ENJOY YOUR WELL PLANNED WALK
